Reaching new heights with Mumbai's human pyramids
Track: Touch The Sky
Artist: Reuel Benedict ft. Sahirah Oshidar
At Janmashtami, the streets of Mumbai are clogged with throngs of people celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna. Hundreds of teams of participants called Govindas make a human pyramid to break an earthen pot filled with milk, curd, butter, fruits and water, hung at a convenient height, imitating the actions of child Krishna.
Practising for weeks before the actual event, mandals travel across the city, attempting to break as many pots as possible during the event. The music for this festival is usually upbeat and led by drums, but here at 101India, we've chosen to go another way. Join us on this musical journey as we experience India through music videos.
